Dr MEHREEN FARUQI ( 10:13 ): I move:
(1)That this House notes that:
(a)South Creek, known as Wianamatta Creek in the Dharug language, is part of the Hawkesbury-Nepean catchment and consists of 17 tributaries 70 kilometres long crossing five local government areas—Hawkesbury, Penrith, Blacktown, Liverpool and Camden;
(b)South Creek has significant pollution issues, including ongoing fish kills, especially since the Dunheved Circuit factory fire in 2015 which resulted in acid and other toxins pouring into the creek; and
(c)the people of Western Sydney deserve to have clean creeks and streams for environmental, recreational and health reasons.
(2)That this House calls on the Government and local councils to work together to clean up South Creek.
Motion agreed to.
