NSW Greens MP and spokesperson for Transport, Dr Mehreen Faruqi MLC, has responded to changes in the Sydney trains timetable that will cut direct services to the Sydney CBD from the Hawkesbury, after the Government assured the community only a few months ago that this won’t happen.
Dr. Faruqi said:
“Just two months ago the Treasurer said news of cutting direct services from the Hawkesbury was false, and here we are with cuts where we actually need more services.
“Why can’t people have safe, direct and regular train services? This Government claims to be building world-class transport for Sydney, while again ignoring and cutting services for areas like the Hawkesbury.
“People have contacted me with serious concerns regarding safety issues. Having to change trains late at night will further drive people away from public transport, and force them to drive. People will take trains when they are safe and convenient.
“The fact is we can have more direct services to and from the Hawkesbury without compromising on frequency or safety and the Government must make this a priority in their transport plans.
